Getting started
You need an Android phone with Android 9 or newer and Google Play services, and the Google account whose email you gave us.
Install
- Open the invitation from Firebase App Distribution (noreply@firebase.google.com) and accept it with your Google account.
- Download Pukuku. Android asks once whether to allow installs from that source: allow it.
Set up, in five screens
- What Pukuku reads and what it never reads.
- Your places. Add Home and Work, and choose the role for each. Drag the map until the cross sits on the building: indoors, the map can start a hundred metres off.
- Permissions. For location, choose Allow all the time on the page Android opens, or arrivals are only noticed while the app is open.
- Working pattern. Your hours a week and working days. They set the "leave at" time; they are not a schedule.
- Help improve Pukuku. Optional and off by default. Preview shows exactly what would be sent.
After setup
- Standing at each place, open Settings › Diagnostics › Where am I? and tap Check now. It should say you're inside.
- Sign in for updates once: Settings › Updates › Sign in, with the same Google account.
- Leave battery optimisation on. Diagnostics shows "Not exempt" in red, and that's fine.
Every day
Use your phone as usual. Answer a question when one comes, and confirm or fix the summary of your day in the evening. At home without a desk beacon, tap Start work when you begin and Done when you stop; Work again picks the day back up.
When a new version is ready, Today shows it with Install. Tap it, then stay on Android's update dialog until it says the app was installed. Your data is kept.
Fixing a day
Tap any stretch on Today to see why Pukuku drew it. From there you can turn it into work or a break, or use Adjust start and Adjust end. Edit day sets the start, the end and a missed break in one go.
Every change is one step with one Undo, and what you set always wins over what Pukuku worked out. If a day is wrong in a way you can't fix, tap Report this on the stretch.
Desk beacon
A small Bluetooth beacon on your desk lets Pukuku draw the start, the breaks and the end of a day at that desk without a tap. It's optional. The reference beacon is the MOKO H2; any iBeacon with a fixed address works the same way.
- Save the place first, then open Places › your place › Desk beacon and tap Start.
- Hold the new beacon against the back of your phone until it says Hello, new beacon, then tap Set it up.
- Keep it there through Setting up. When it says That's your desk, tap Done, then Save.
Dashboard
Open the dashboard in Chrome or Edge on a computer with a webcam, start the camera, and tap Show on PC on your phone. Hold the screen 20 to 40 cm from the camera with the brightness up, and tilt it a little if the light reflects.
Something isn't right
Leaving the pilot
Open Settings › Help improve Pukuku › Delete my uploaded data. Collection switches off, and the days you uploaded are deleted within a few days. We confirm in the pilot chat when it's done.
Nothing in the guide matches that. Try fewer words, or ask in the pilot chat.
